Most AI problems aren't really AI problems. They're data problems.

That idea is behind most of what I do. I'm Amin, an AI engineer and researcher based in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. I teach computers to understand pictures and video. Start wherever looks interesting.

The Researcher

Helping AI learn about a condition it has barely seen.

I'm a Graduate Research Assistant at TM R&D, Telekom Malaysia's research arm, and master's student at Multimedia University since March 2026. Before that, a B.Sc. in Data Science at MMU.

what my research is about2026 – now

Some babies are born with clubfoot, where the foot turns inward. It's treatable, and catching it early matters.

AI could help doctors check it faster, but AI learns from pictures, and for a rare condition there are very few. So I'm using AI to create realistic new ones, and working with orthopaedic doctors to keep only the images they agree look right.

If it works, the next person building a tool to help these children won't have to start with almost nothing.

None of these feet are real. They come from an early test, where an AI made them from written clinical descriptions alone: one for each of the five views doctors photograph, showing the sign that view is used to check. None has been checked by doctors yet; that comes next.
how doctors measure it

Six signs, each scored 0, 0.5 or 1

Doctors grade clubfoot by rating six signs on the foot; the total shows how severe it is and how treatment is going. So an AI image can't just look like a baby's foot. Each sign has to be there at the right level, or a tool trained on it learns the wrong thing.

Reviewing other people's research

I was invited to review five papers for a research conference, my first time on the other side. It changed how I write my own.

The Engineer

Teaching computers to watch sport.

Computers can already see a match. I'm teaching them to understand it.

Finding the moments that matter

As an AI and computer vision engineer, I work on action spotting: finding the exact moment of every goal, shot or tackle in a full match.

  1. 01 · data

    Clean footage in

Building the pipeline from labelled footage to training data, split so tests are honest.

  2. 02 · models

    Train and compare

Fine-tuning the models and benchmarking them against each other.

  3. 03 · tuning

    How sure is sure?

Deciding how confident a model must be before it calls a moment.

  4. 04 · analytics

    From moments to numbers

Turning detected moments into match stats, like who scored and who assisted.

A whole match goes in. The moments that matter come out, each pinned to the exact frame.temporal action spotting · annotation pipeline · fine-tuning · threshold tuning

The Analyst

Where my career started: making data make sense.

Before AI, I was a data analyst. It's still where most of the real work happens.

AFC dashboard, Results page: wins, draws and losses for each team, with filters for tournament, edition, stage, group and date
The Results page: every team's wins, draws and losses, filtered by tournament, stage and date.
  • Jul–Oct 2023Data Analyst, Asian Football Confederation. My first real job, and a football fan's dream. I built a dashboard that brings live data on players, teams and matches into one place, and people at the AFC were using it before my internship ended.
  • Nov 2023 – Jan 2024Data Analyst, SRKK Group. Reports for a company's finance and operations, from pulling the raw data to the final dashboard.
  • 2024–2025Freelance. Written reports and the presentations that go with them, plus small data projects for clients.

What it taught meThe gap between a working model and one that actually gets used is almost always about how the data is structured and communicated, not the algorithm.

The Builder

Community

A home for Sudanese students at MMU.

I'm Sudanese, and in 2023 there were 70+ of us studying at MMU with no structure representing us. So I founded the Sudanese Cultural Society (SCS), with a constitution, committee and roles from the start, because I'd seen student clubs collapse when their founder left.
